A Happy Story from 2015 - (the first annual mini flea market)
A man had arranged in advance to bring a very large doll-house that was in noticeable disrepair. A true Handy-Man Special. He'd said he wanted to "give it" to someone and he brought it in on a flat-bed dolly, depositing it just inside the salesroom. We placed a sign on the chimney that simply said "Love Me. I'm Free".
He had forgotten to bring the roof that extended over the side porch so he went home to get it.
While he was gone, two women arrived and one of them fell in love. "Oh," she said. "It's just what I want. I've been away from miniatures for so long and I'm just dying to fix it up." She was close to tears, she was so happy. The floor plan was unique. The house opened on more than one side. It had been electrified. Each discovery just heightened her excitement.
The friend's car would never hold this house, they decided, and they were thinking about their options when the owner returned with the missing porch. It took this generous man less than one minute to volunteer to take it to her house in North Portland for her.
I still grin, every time I think about that scene.
